Franklin County, Florida Courthouse

The current Franklin County Courthouse is the second Courthouse in Apalachicola, Florida. It was built in 1940 as a W.P.A. project. Built in the Classic style, the building that stands prominently in the Apalachicola Historic District. 

The Apalachicola Historic District is bounded by the Apalachicola River, Apalachicola Bay, 17th and Jefferson Streets and encompasses approximately 4600 acres (19 km²) and contains 652 historic buildings. On November 21, 1980, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. 

Franklin County, established in 1832 and named for Benjamin Franklin, is located in Florida’s Panhandle approximately 80 miles southwest of the State capitol, Tallahassee. The county is comprised of 545 square miles and 348,800 acres. Franklin County serves more than 11,000 residents.
